According to the CURS survey conducted at PSD’s request just before the JAI board, Klaus Iohannis and the entire political class are mainly responsible for not joining Schengen.

When asked who is the main culprit behind Romania not joining Schengen, 23% of respondents pointed to President Iohannis, 12% to the entire political class, 9% to the government and 7% to the interests of private companies.

47% of respondents said that the fact that Romania did not join Schengen was due to external factors, while 41% pointed to internal factors.

56% want to take measures against Austria’s economic interests

56% of respondents believe that Romania should take measures against Austria’s economic interests in Romania, while 40% believe that this should not happen.

Blocking public procurement from Austrian companies would be a measure worth taking from the point of view of 56% of respondents, while 55% consider it necessary to cool diplomatic relations.

68% of respondents say that Romanian citizens should be well received abroad. Also, 63% believe that Romanians should no longer go on vacation to Austria, and 54% should no longer buy anything from Austrian companies.

The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,088 respondents, voters over the age of 18. Maximum margin of error for the entire sample: +/-3% at the 95% confidence level. Data collection method: CATI method (computer-aided telephone interview). Deadline: December 9-11, 2022.
