Parliament: Secondary Guardianship Bill passed with 156 yes votes.

The draft law of the Ministry of Health on secondary health care was adopted by the government by a majority vote.

At the request of SYRIZA, PASOK-Movement for Change and the KKE to hold a roll-call vote (on the principle and under the disputed articles providing for the possibility of employment of PES doctors in the private sector, and on the announcement of PES doctors for part-time positions) out of 297 voters, 156 MPs from the ND voted ” for, and 141 opposition MPs voted against.

Concluding the two-day debate, Deputy Minister of Health Asimina Gaga said that the goal of the health system is not the full and exclusive employment of doctors, but safe services.

Ms Gaga said the system has been failing for years and the answer is not the €2,000 doctors’ salary offered by SYRIZA:

“We gave 2,000 euros without taxes, but very little came. Financial motivation is not the first motivation, but the specialization of work, the freedom and dignity that a doctor can have,” Ms Gaga said, referring to the opportunity given to NHS doctors to practice privately up to two hours a week.

Ms Gaga, who called on all powers to vote for the bill, said that even if they don’t, “the bill will pass and it will be good for society.” He also expressed confidence that the next government will again be Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who will continue to consistently and firmly support every citizen, every doctor and every worker in the national health system.
