The MERA25 party is also based in Italy.

MERA25 Italy will be inaugurated on Saturday 12 November in Rome by the head of Greek MeRA25 and co-founder of DiEM25 Janis Varoufakis.

The event at Acquario Romano will also feature DiEM25 Italy Representative Federico Dolce and Germany MERA25 Representative Juliana Zita, with videos from supporters such as Slavoj Zizek, Brian Eno, Roger Waters and Ese Temelcuran.

The Italian company MERA25 will be the third party to DiEM25 and they will all share the same name. Under the leadership of Janis Varoufakis, MERA25 Greece has been in Parliament since 2019, while MERA25 Germany was founded in November 2021.

According to the related announcement, their common goal is to bring the DiEM25 values and manifesto to the polls: social justice, open borders, the Green New Deal and the new Non-Aligned Movement.

Statements

Janis Varoufakis said: “Italy has a neo-fascist government because the Italian left has failed to present a radical, realistic, humanistic and Europeanist alternative to the oligarchic policies of Brussels and Frankfurt, which is fully supported by the centrist parties and the Italian oligarchs. The last thing Italy needs today is another harmless little party on the left. Italy needs a left-wing party with a radically progressive pan-European agenda and a transnational organization. MERA25, the new party that will launch DiEM25 in Rome on November 12th, aims to be that kind of party.”

Federico Dolce, National Representative for DiEM25 in Italy, said: “Today, more than ever, Italy must move beyond the outdated and illusory standards by which the political world and the media are still trying – and failing – to read society. The vision of the future is still tied to an ideal dating back to the 1960s The world has changed, our lives have changed, we can no longer offer our young men and women a perspective worth fighting for, we don’t care now. our hibernating fellow citizens living with the illusion that their problems do not concern us. We are facing a new era, whether we like it or not. Our duty is to formulate a coherent, radical and credible proposal for the future. Not only for them, but for everyone and for all of us.”
