The Prime Minister emphasized the country’s goal to be “at the center of a new corridor that will redraw the energy map of Europe.” Mrs Mitsotakis during the speeches, speeches and meetings he had in his context COP27 session in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Changing of the climate.

In this context, emphasizing that “our future competitiveness will be based on abundant wind and solar resources”, he specifically mentioned, on the one hand, negotiations with Cairo “on the construction of a cable to transport cheap electricity from North Africa to Europe, which will be produced by the sun ” and, on the other hand, in our country’s use of clean forms of energy: “Almost half of our electricity today comes from wind, solar and water. Last month, we reached an important milestone when, in five hours on a sunny and windy October day, solar and wind power covered 100% of the country’s electricity needs,” he said, among other things.

On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Mitsotakis also met with the US President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, John Kerry. During the meeting, according to government sources, “Greece and US cooperation in the fight against climate change was discussed.

The Prime Minister welcomed US initiatives to reduce the energy footprint of shipping, highlighting the key role of the world’s largest maritime shipping industry, owned by Greece, in achieving any goal of developing sustainable solutions in the sector.”
