PRINT EDITION. At the center of parliamentary diplomacy are developments in the South East Mediterranean, as well as a number of critical issues in our wider region, such as the immigration crisis and refugee flows.
In particular, the issue of recent developments in the Southeastern Mediterranean and the Aegean was at the center of a special meeting of the parliamentary committee on national defense and foreign affairs, in which members of the foreign affairs committee of the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) took part. The information indicates that similar meetings are planned for the near future with deputies of the relevant committees of Austria, Sweden, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia and Ireland.
Also today, the two-day work of the Ad Hoc Group on the Mediterranean and the Middle East of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly ends in Parliament.
As it became known, the subject of this meeting is security in the Mediterranean basin and in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, the changing geopolitical situation in this region, challenges in the field of defense and border security, the migration crisis and refugee flows and the energy crisis in Europe. It was rightly noted that in the course of the work “Greece’s positions on the challenges in the southern wing of NATO” are presented and “Greece’s contribution to energy security” is emphasized.
