
The strategy of rapprochement with the Baltic States is reinforced by the visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Vilnius on Monday and Tallinn on Tuesday. The Prime Minister will meet with the political and state leadership of the two countries in the capitals of Lithuania and Estonia.
Mr. Mitsotakis is making his first visit to Lithuania since the visit of Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrid Simonyte to Athens in July 2021, recalling the visit of the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, to Tallinn last May and to Vilnius last June.
It is expected that the latest developments in Ukraine and the energy crisis ahead of a difficult winter will be the main topics on the agenda of the prime minister’s contacts in the two Baltic countries.
Lithuania is one of the countries that supported the Greek proposal to set a natural gas price ceiling and the Prime Minister is expected to reaffirm the need for a European solution to the European problem and immediate planning and implementation of what was agreed to at the last European Council, which was held on 20 and October 21 in Brussels.
In addition, there is a common understanding between the two countries on the instrumentalization of migration and the need to demonstrate European solidarity in protecting the external borders of the EU. It is recalled that Lithuania faced the instrumentalization of migration flows to its borders.
The Prime Minister is expected to update on the latest developments regarding Turkey’s provocative behavior that is undermining stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean and challenging Greek sovereignty at a critical moment when the entire West has condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and revisionism.
The digital agenda is expected to be at the center of the Prime Minister’s meetings in Tallinn, as Estonia has extensive experience in the field of artificial intelligence, digital service delivery and cybersecurity and has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with our country for the digitization of public services. and modernization of public administration in July 2021.
