Schertzos: Commitments to the National Air Search and Rescue Mechanism are being met

The government is fulfilling its commitment made 6 months ago to establish an air search and rescue network, which is absolutely necessary, especially in case of accidents in the mountainous regions of the country. The reason was given after the premature and unjust death of 21-year-old Theophanis – Ermis Theocharopoulos, in February last year in Tsumerka.

The Minister of State gives the history of the case as well as the current actions of the government. Akis Shertsos in a social media post: “6 months ago Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made a commitment to Ermis’s parents, Yiannis Theocharopoulos and Marina Anastasiou, to establish an airborne search and rescue network, similar to those that exist in other European countries with developed mountain regions. . tourism and mountain sports activities – for the purpose of primary transportation of victims and patients from hard-to-reach areas of the country to medical institutions.

This commitment is being translated into action today with the introduction of a bill in Parliament that provides for the establishment of this mechanism with 6 bases of readiness and immediate response, as well as a range of coverage throughout the territory within 45 feet of Elefsina, Thessaloniki, Larissa. , Heraklion of Crete, Aktio and Andravida.

This mechanism bears the name “Theophanis Ermis Theocharopoulos” in memory of the young man who died untimely. It will be staffed with specialized flight and paramedical personnel and air vehicles to provide air assistance to EKAB ground forces so that we can jointly provide the fastest possible response to save lives.”

And the post of Minister of State, in a more personal tone, concludes: “John and Marina, thank you. With your silent pain and your proud attitude, you remind us every day that the person who feels his own pain is still alive, but the person who feels the pain of another is a man. And thanks to you, we all become more human.”
