Mitsotakis from Prague: respect for international law not only in words

Prime Minister’s message that “respect for international law and the fundamental protection of human rights must be the cornerstone supporting this new effort” Kyriakos Mitsotakisin his statement is at the opening of the European Political Community Summit in Prague.

Mr. Mitsotakis even expressed the hope that “all the countries that are participating today and likely to be participating in the future share these common values not only in words but also in deeds.”

The Prime Minister did not fail to mention the problem of immigration against the backdrop of another tragedy unfolding in recent hours in the Aegean Sea, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of life, despite the heroic efforts, as he said, of the Coast Guard and called on all those involved to cooperate more effectively in avoid similar incidents in the future.

Detailed statement from the Prime Minister:

“In these challenging times, the European Political Community is a new forum bringing together all the countries of the continent to promote our common security and prosperity. It goes without saying that such a community of nations must be based on common values that we must all share. Respect for international law, the fundamental protection of human rights, must be the cornerstone underlying these new efforts. I sincerely hope that all countries participating today and possibly participating in the future share these common values not only in words but also in deeds.

On another occasion, I would like to express my deep sorrow for the loss of life this morning and late last night in two shipwrecks in the Aegean despite the heroic efforts of the Greek Coast Guard. I believe the time has come to really work together in a much more meaningful way to avoid similar incidents in the future and to completely neutralize the smugglers who exploit innocent people, desperate people who are trying to reach the European continent. on boats that are clearly not seaworthy.”
