In a statement released after the conclusion of a hours-long meeting of the Turkish National Security Council (MGK), held today under the chairmanship of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ankara “calls on countries that support Greece’s provocative and illegal actions in the Aegean to come to their senses.”
The announcement, released after the four-hour meeting, mentions issues such as the confrontation with Greece, efforts to fight terrorism, tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and so on.
“The circles calling on Greece to deploy weapons on the demilitarized islands are called upon to be guided by common sense,” the statement said, in which the Turkish side also urges the United States to reverse its decision to lift the arms embargo on Cyprus, a decision “which will negatively affect on peace and balance in the region and which is contrary to the spirit of the NATO alliance,” Ankara notes, which, however, at the same time asks the international community to “recognize TDVK.”
“We will not hesitate to use all kinds of legitimate methods and means to protect the interests and rights of our people from the futile efforts of Greece,” the Turkish National Security Council said in a statement.
