ISTANBUL – ANSWER. O Erdogan tried to answer the objections of the Foreign Ministry Nikos Dendias per Greek minority in Turkey, while he insisted on tense rhetoric about the refugee. Mr. Dendias urged Turkey to answer the question of what happened to the Greek minority in Istanbul, which once numbered 100,000 citizens and today is less than 5,000.
In statements to reporters upon his return from the US, the Turkish president said, without acknowledging what had happened in the past, that “we were not the government that wanted to reduce the Greek population in Turkey. If nothing else, our door is open.” The President of Turkey mentioned some of the steps he actually took to Ecumenical Patriarchate. “The Synod of the Patriarchate must have a certain number of members. Their number has been reduced to seven. Since he did not have a specific number, I told Patriarch Bartholomew: “Bring priests from abroad, I will give them citizenship, because they must be citizens of the Republic of Turkey.” So they ended the session.”
Mr Erdogan accused her Hellas on its policy towards minorities and stated that “there is no limit to the persecution they are currently perpetrating against our citizens and compatriots in Western Thrace. Recently, they really wanted to put their own priests (s.s. imams) there. Have we risen and appointed priests here? Not!”.
He also again blamed Greece for its stance on immigration. “We had the opportunity to support our speech at the General Assembly. UN with various photographs. Their inclusion enriched our conversation. Of course, it’s impossible not to be shocked by the heartbreaking photo of baby Asim and Abdul Wahab. They need to be distributed all over the world.”
Finally, he mentioned Cyprus, saying that he had discussed the occupation with Putin. “We don’t see ‘Northern Cyprus’ as a random country. Of course, we will be happy to open direct flights from Russia to the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” he concluded.
