Androulakis: The purpose of my monitoring is the autonomy of the faction

From the hall of the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where the issue of surveillance in the EU countries is being discussed, Nikos Androulakis claimed that the purpose of his surveillance by the EYP was faction autonomy.

“The Prime Minister invited me yesterday to go and get information from her. EYP for the usual reasons they followed me. But he calls me to do something, which was done illegal, by the law of their government. In fact, how do we know my file it was destroyed on the same day that the Independent Authority was informed to my complaint. Why; The Greek people must know the truth,” said the President of the PASOK-Movement for Change, addressing his European counterparts.

Mr. Androulakis noted that “the Prime Minister, as the political head of the intelligence services, may, under Law No. 3649 of 2008, remove the secrecy and let the reason for my surveillance become knowninstead of continuing to poison and divide the Greek people with conspiracy theories.”

He indicated that they should be called to the commission of inquiry, both in Greece and in the Commission PEGA European Parliament, all faces which, based on journalistic research, are associated with the use of these programs.

“We already tried it once, but the ruling majority rejected it. I made it clear from the start that this is not a private matter. This is a matter of democracy,” he stressed and stressed: “Special services must operate within a democratic framework and protect the political system from illegal software, and not cover up its use. In democracies, no government agency can operate in total darkness.. Confidentiality must end where the need for transparency and accountability begins.”

According to him, one cannot put up with the new norm, when surveillance of politicians, parties, journalists, judges, but also of every ordinary citizen, is considered legal in advance. “This is what the big brother is,” he said, “the heresy of private life and individual rights in the name of a vague and secret national need.”

He noted that in the difficult times that Europe is going through, “authoritarian leaders are directly undermining our common future and liberal democracy, and some, unfortunately, condemning them, imitate their practices, such as controlling the media, ensnaring opponents of politicians and instrumentalizing justice that has no place in the European Union. This is not the European way of life. It’s not a rule of law.”

He stressed the need for an institutional structure that would protect European citizens both from the arbitrary rule of governments and from the oligarchs who can gain access to these malware, further strengthening their power.

He called on the European Parliament and all MEPs to be pioneers in this new fight for human rights and dignity.
