A scene predisposing to an uneven development in the near future of its action developed during yesterday’s meeting Parliamentary Investigation Committee per follow up: SYRIZA, PASOK and MERA25 refused to participate in a specific meeting, condemning the blue majority for using tactics to cover up the case under investigation. The reason was that their suggestions as to which witnesses should be called for questioning were not accepted.
The statements and announcements by which the two major forces (Mr. Varoufakis’s party has a history of similar actions on the part of such committees) accompanied their departure yesterday give the impression, especially as far as the official opposition party is concerned, that everything except that the possibility about a high-profile final departure with another “reason” and, in any case, until the expiration of the period – initially one month – for completing the work is not discussed.
The atmosphere of polarization that prevails when focusing on specific issues is evidenced by the fact that the explosive tension that arose from the very first meeting and escalated yesterday, culminating in refusals, continued even after the end of the meeting, with Al. Tsipras indirectly confirm that his plans before the elections and possible post-election cooperation include the prospect of creating an investigative commission against the current government. Shortly thereafter, the government, through its representative G. Economy he noted that he would not allow “political life to become a Roman arena”.
Mr. Tsipras plans to create a commission of inquiry against the current government.
Everything seems to have started, at least yesterday, when the ND deputies. the committee – who has the majority – was told that nine people would be called to the next meetings as witnesses: the current and former administrators of the EMP Them. Demiris, P. Contoleon, I. Rubatis, T. DravillasADAE President Chr. Rammoshead of the National Transparency Agency Alexandra Rogakulegal representatives of Krikel and Intellexa, and the President of PASOK N. Androulakis.
A long list of witnesses was presented by PASOK, which initially included the names of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mitsotakis, and, among other things, officials of the current government. A similar list was presented by SYRIZA, and the CHRG, in turn, directly interested in the case of “hearings” – surveillance in its call center since 2016, suggested persons from the governments of SYRIZA-ANEL.
The majority reportedly did not rule out a future expansion of the list proposed yesterday, should it be deemed necessary due to developments. This position, however, did not satisfy the opposition parties, but not all of them left, since the KKE remained, and N. Karatanasopoulos said that “we will return our proposals on witnesses who should be interrogated at every opportunity.”
After all this, the leader of the official opposition, in his blunt statement, among other things, said: “Soon those who fight to cast darkness and undermine democracy will answer to the Greek people and before the law.” In response, Mr. Oikonomou accused President SYRIZA of “demonstrating political banditry” and added, “No matter how many threats he makes, the issue of connections will be highlighted for the last decade.”
