“Treasury” of parties and regular parliamentary battles

In the coming days, the theater of the inter-party standoff over the surveillance case will be turned over to the smaller parliamentary bodies of the Plenum, which, as yesterday’s discussion of political leaders in front of the national delegation, marked the beginning of a long period of extreme pre-election polarization.

The next battle will unfold on the field of the commission of inquiry, the composition of which, based on the proposal of PASOK, will be determined tomorrow. At the second level, it remains to be seen whether and under what institutional framework a parallel investigation of the same case will be carried out in the Committee on Institutions and Transparency of the Parliament, as PASOK and the Communist Party have been asking for several days.

Chronologically and procedurally, it precedes the chapter of the Examination. It is recalled that PASOK specifically asks for an investigation into the surveillance of Nikos Androulakis’ phone by the EMP, attempts to trap him with the illegal Predator software, and “in what specific cases of politicians and others” such provocations took place. an attempt was made.

At the same time, for his meeting, he formally asked to be summoned to the Committee on Institutions and on the same issues, the new and former administrator of the EMP, Panagiotis Kontoleon, the appeals prosecutor in charge of the EMP, Vasiliki Vlahov, the former General Secretary of the Prime Minister, Grigoris Dimitriadis, and the President of ADAE, Christos Rammos.

Logically, the same persons will be invited to the exam. This possibility seems to cause the Committee on Institutions to “rethink” since the image of the same people attending two parallel meetings of different bodies to discuss the same issues can simplify parliamentary procedures.

It is noteworthy in this regard that while the Conference of Presidents initially almost agreed to convene the Committee on Institutions next week, the program of work announced last night does not provide for such a meeting.

The second thorn in the side, which is expected to again become a sharpening fuse, is the time frame of the investigation.

Yesterday’s process with the leaders revealed an agreement between ND, PASOK, KKE and MeRA25 to also investigate a case of “collusion” in a Communist Party call center that has been reported since 2016 (i.e. during the SYRIZA – ANEL government). ).

The premier, who, according to the “blue” majority, “came out the winner, although the issue for the government was and remains very difficult,” returned the proposal for a ten-year investigation.

Alexis Tsipras, who is said in Koumunduru to have led the prime minister and the ruling majority to a “great defeat” yesterday, disagrees. Avoiding taking a position specifically on the KKE’s request, he limited himself to replying to Mr. Mitsotakis that if he wanted to expand the scope of the investigation beyond that provided for in the PASOK proposal, he should demand the formation of another committee. .

If, however, the majority of the parties who want an investigation and the issue raised by the KKE decide to do so, then the circle of persons to be invited will be expanded by at least one: the former commander of the EMP, during the Prime Minister of Tsipras, Giannis Rubatis.

The fronts for the political headquarters are obviously many and explosive, and the President of PASOK adds his “touch” on what we should expect: “I’m making an appointment with the Prime Minister to report to the Investigative Committee. ,” he said.
