Tsipras with five questions in the Parliament battle

The main goal of Alexis Tsipras in tomorrow’s parliamentary debate is to show that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is unable to provide convincing answers in the surveillance case. According to SYRIZA, the “national security” excuse to watch Nikos Androulakis can’t resist as the official leader of the opposition tries to press the prime minister with a series of questions:

• How many other Greek politicians, journalists and businessmen are under surveillance?

• Is it true that EYP leased Predator?

• Which companies rented the malware?

• Why, as soon as the ND won the election, was the law changed so that Mr. Contoleon could become the commander of the AIP?

SYRIZA uses “national security” as a pretext to monitor Androulakis. Violent government conflict with Kumunduru over Politico article.

• Why did the law change and citizens lost the right to receive information if they were subjected to retrospective surveillance?

It is expected that the official leader of the opposition will raise his tone and, in addition to the resignation of the government, will try to squeeze the election time out of the prime minister.

Friday’s debate was foreshadowed by a conflict between the government and SYRIZA over an article in Politico. Referring to documents exchanged between the Commission and the Greek side, the magazine reported that Athens said: “Given that national security should be treated with the utmost care, we consider it prudent to avoid hasty coverage of specific publications coming from the political media in the future. which do not always differ in accuracy and objectivity.

This was followed by a statement by Nasos Iliopoulos, who spoke of revealing the Prime Minister’s sole purpose, which was a cover-up: “When the Commission requested clarification in a letter on July 29 about the illegal Predator surveillance software, the Government responded on August 2 with a request not to enter into conflict , citing “national security concerns” and discredited the media revelations.”

Yannis Oikonomou speaks of the trivialization of SYRIZA and of the inaccurate and misleading publication of Politico, who mentions that in a reply letter, the Permanent Representative of Greece stressed that he is always at the disposal of public services to inform himself (as after everything he also did before the letter) on any case, especially when it is ongoing. And he even promised that he would return to the commission with detailed information about the results of the ongoing investigation as soon as it was completed.

Attaching the letter to the press, a government spokesman notes that “EMP and other public authorities did not buy or use Predator or similar software”, he emphasizes that information about Predator is completely separate from information about legal applications, adding that for all in fact, the letter concluded that Community institutions should not rely on inaccurate reports. Yiannis Oikonomou speaks of a fragmentary presentation of a document by Politiko and SYRIZA asking for the restoration of the truth.
