“The United States remains united with its allies and partners in its commitment to strengthening European energy security, reducing our collective dependence on Russian energy resources, and maintaining pressure on the Kremlin. The US policy regarding the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus is old and has not changed,” he said.

In this context, the spokesman reaffirmed Washington’s firm position, stating that “the United States recognizes the right of the Republic of Cyprus to exploit the resources located within its exclusive economic zone. We believe that the oil and gas resources of Cyprus, like all of its resources, should be fairly divided between the two communities. Resource development in the Eastern Mediterranean should promote cooperation and provide the basis for sustainable energy security and economic prosperity throughout the region.”
