The editors of Tjournal on Monday, August 22, announced the end of the project. “As much as we would like it, this is not a joke or clickbait. The last day of our publication is September 10”, reads the message that appeared on the publication’s social networks.
The publication’s website has been blocked by Roskomnadzor in Russia since March 14, 2022, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation. What kind of publication caused the block, TJ still doesn’t know.
After the announcement of the lockdown, the publication began a gradual reduction of the staff to continue working. However, this measure did not help. Publishers are forced to admit that the money for developing the project has run out. “Turns out we’ll come out at the 11 year, 2 month and 21 day mark,” Tjournal said in a statement.
4 million visitors per month
Tjournal is a Russian online publication and news aggregator founded on June 20, 2011. The main topics are social networks, blogs, legislation and gadgets. According to information from the publication itself, the site’s traffic was up to 4 million visitors per month.
Since the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to the Roskomsvoboda project, Roskomnadzor has blocked several thousand websites – major news publications, social networks, public organization websites, commercial and IT companies – allegedly for posting false information about the military conflict.
