PASOK: Requested for Immediate Convening of Committee on Institutions and Parliamentary Transparency

The demand for the immediate convening of the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions and Transparency to discuss the case of Nikos Androulakis’ mobile phone tapping was filed on Monday morning. PASOK-KINAL.

In a letter to the Chairman of the Commission, PASOK-KINAL asks four people to testify in the case:

  • new Commander of the National Intelligence Service Mr. Themistoklis Demiris
  • ousted National Intelligence Service commander Panagiotis Kontoleon
  • Attorney of Appeals Vasiliki Vlahov, responsible for EYP
  • former General Secretary to the Prime Minister Grigoris Dimitriadis

Full letter from PASOK-KINAL:

To: President of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency, Mr. Athanasios Bure.

Mr. President,

Following the discovery of an attempt to hack into the mobile phone of PASOK-KINEMATOS ALLAGIS President Nikos Androulakis using the Predator malware, we demanded that the Committee on Institutions and Transparency be convened and invited to hear before it the then EYP Commander and the President of the Message Privacy Enforcement Authority (ADAE).

The meeting of the Commission and the hearing of the aforementioned persons, those present and the Ministers of Digital Governance and the State took place on July 29, 2022.

During this meeting, through an interesting alternation of disclosure, guilty silence and careful cover-up, new and critical questions were raised about the surveillance case not only of the president of PASOK-KINEMATOS ALLAGIS, but also of journalists and parties.

Before enough time had passed since July 29, and amidst a storm of impressions, questions and rumors, we were surprised, citizens and parties, to learn from the Prime Minister in charge of the National Intelligence Service that since the end of September 2021, Nikos Androulakis has been under surveillance on his phone after being ordered to do so by the prosecutor in charge of EYP, with a general and vague reference to “national security” considerations. Connecting the President of PASOK-KINEMATOS ALLAGIS to the telephone, i.e. “legitimate” wiretapping of the conversations of an elected politician and party leader by the secret services, is an unprecedented institutional sabotage carried out in violation of the Constitution. and law.

The consequences of recognizing the person directly responsible for the Prime Minister’s EYP should have resulted in the removal of EYP Commander Mr. Contoleon and General Secretary of the Prime Minister, Mr. Dimitriadis. That is, nothing more than a short pronunciation of “apetaksamen”.

However, institutional deviation persists, the violation of constitutional legitimacy flourishes, the undermining of any concept of the secrecy of communications blurs rights and values, the questions are gigantic, and as long as faces and duties are hidden in the dark, the Republic, in awe, will wait for the next call.

Mr. President,

Politics must be guided by an ethic of responsibility. It is necessary to know, the Greek people must know what happened in the current case of surveillance, sad for our political life, events, actors, motives, aspirations of invisible and visible centers.

Only in this way, with the full and unadulterated truth, will we be able to protect the Republic by covering it with all necessary means.

Therefore, we ask that the Committee on Institutions and Transparency be convened immediately within the current week after its meeting on July 29, 2022, at which they will be invited to a hearing:

a) The new Commander of the National Intelligence Service, Mr. Themistoklis Demiris

b) The deposed commander of the National Intelligence Service, stubbornly silent during the first interrogation about what he did for “legitimate” attachments, Mr. Panagiotis Kontoleon

c) Prosecutor of the appellate instance, Ms. Vasilika Vlahova, responsible for the EMP, as an integral part of the wiretapping case are the prosecutor’s orders on lifting the confidentiality of communications and the justifications accompanying them

d) the former general secretary of the prime minister, Mr. Grigoris Dimitriadis, as he allegedly kept in touch with the former commander of the EMP,

e) Finally, the President of the Office of Confidentiality of Communications, Mr. Christos Rammos.
