
Ukrainian world boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk defended his world heavyweight title according to three international boxing organizations at the same time – WBA, WBO and IBF. In the rematch with former British world champion Anthony Joshua Usyk, held on Saturday, August 20, in Saudi Arabia, Usyk won by points in a fight that lasted 12 rounds.
Now, the 35-year-old Ukrainian boxer doesn’t just have a world title according to the WBC. Here the champion is the British Tyson Fury, but recently announced once again his intention to retire from boxing. Usyk has 20 wins in the classification, 13 by knockout and zero defeats.
Usyk dedicated his victory to Ukraine
After the fight with Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk made a patriotic statement, dedicating his victory to Ukraine. “I dedicate this fight to Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and everyone who defends my country, my team and my entire country,” he said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the symbolic significance of Usyk’s victory.
“A difficult WIN, but so important and necessary! The defense of the world title is a symbol of the fact that everyone from the Cossack family will not give up theirs, they will fight for it and they will surely win!”, Zelensky wrote. on his microblog on Twitter.
