The Russian Ministry of Justice has included the Ukrainian Congress of Canada, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada on the list of undesirable organizations. A message about this was posted on Friday, August 19, on the agency’s website.
The “Ukrainian Canadian Congress” was founded in 1940 in Winnipeg. This association includes political, public and cultural organizations of Ukrainians in Canada as well as Canadian Ukrainian churches. The MacDonald-Laurier Institute is an Ottawa-based think tank founded in 2010. “Ukrainian National Federation of Canada” was founded in 1932. It is headquartered in Toronto and is a Canada-wide cultural and non-profit organization of Ukrainian Canadians.
The Attorney General’s Office declared these NGOs undesirable on August 4. Thus, there are now 65 organizations registered.
