China will send its soldiers to Russia to participate in the strategic military exercise Vostok 2022, which will take place from August 30 to September 5. “China’s participation aims to strengthen strategic coordination among participating countries and strengthen the ability to respond to security threats,” the Chinese Ministry of Defense said on Thursday, August 18.
The report notes that “the exercises are not related to the current international and regional situation”. In addition to China and Russia, military personnel from India, Belarus, Tajikistan and Mongolia will participate in the Vostok-2022 maneuvers.
Not the first joint exercise
Western countries accuse China and India of providing diplomatic support to Russia in the context of Russian aggression in Ukraine. China and India refuse to condemn the Kremlin’s actions.
In May, Russia and China held joint drills involving bombers near Japan and South Korea. At the time, US President Joe Biden was in Tokyo to meet with the heads of government of India, Australia and Japan on regional security issues.
