WSJ: Trump seized 11 sets of confidential documents during a search

US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents seized 11 sets of confidential documents during an August 8 search of former US President Donald Trump’s property in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. This was reported on Friday, August 12, by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing a list of confiscated Trump materials at his disposal.

The list includes, among other things, documents classified as “top secret,” available exclusively to employees of special government agencies, the WSJ notes.

The US Department of Justice partially confirmed the newspaper’s publication, saying top-secret documents were seized from Trump, but did not specify their volume. In addition, the Ministry of Justice reported that the former president is suspected of violating the espionage law.

Unknown nuclear weapons documents

According to Donald Trump’s lawyers, before leaving the White House, the former US president declassified the documents discovered within his powers. As Trump himself said, “there was no need” for FBI agents to seize the declassified documents, as they could obtain them at any time, “without doing politics and without invading Mar-a-Lago.”

For its part, the Washington Post, citing informed sources, reports that FBI agents were looking for secret documents related to nuclear weapons at Trump’s residence. Whether or not they were found is unknown. Trump himself said in this regard that “the issue of nuclear weapons is a hoax”.

In total, FBI agents removed about 20 boxes of documents, photographs and notes from Donald Trump’s estate. Among them is Trump’s decree pardoning his former aide Roger Stone, as well as information about the “President of France”, the Wall Street Journal notes.
