In direct and harsh criticism of the Prime Minister’s remarks that monitoring his phone PASOK President legal, Mr. Ev. Venizelos.

The former vice premier and former president of PASOK characteristically emphasizes: “There is not even a rudimentary level of legality when the confidentiality of the messages of an MEP who has legal protection of a MEP at the national level is violated, citing national security reasons. An MP or MEP, and especially a party leader, cannot be followed for internal or much more “imported” “national security” reasons. The prime minister’s position that surveillance was formally legal but politically incorrect is a big mistake.” In this context, he notes, among other things: “With regard to a specific and recognized event, the competent authorities of the criminal justice system must be immediately relocated” for the non-political persons involved.

It is worth noting, finally, that Mr. Venizelos, pointing out that “political responsibility is determined through elections”, adds: “I believe and hope that citizens are required to have a government capable of responding to the major international political, economic and social challenges of the moment, first of which is the quality and durability of liberal democracy.”
