“A few days ago, the Prime Minister became aware that in September 2021, at a time when Mr. Androulakis he only held his position MEP and it was PASOK presidential candidateThe National Intelligence Service established a legitimate connection to his mobile phone,” a government spokesman said. Yannis Oikonomou begins informing political editors.
“This process received approval from the Supreme Attorney just like the position was passed 2018 from the previous government. It lasted three months and was automatically suspended by law a few days after Mr. Androulakis was elected president of KINAL. While it is clear that the prescribed legal procedures were followed, EEM’s review was incorrect and incomplete as the political aspects of this case were underestimated,” Mr. Oikonomou said.
He added that due to the nature of the case, The EMP was supposed to inform the political authorities to whom it belongs, but did not show the necessary sensitivity in such cases, resolve the issue strictly officially and in any case within the framework of legality.
Emphasize how no updates on time for spying on Mr. Androulakis’ phone, despite the fact that EYP is under the control of the Prime Minister’s Office. That’s why the prime minister asked and got it AIP commander’s resignation. He called it a political move of decency and a consequence of inadequate treatment by the EMP, resignation of the Central Committee of the Prime Minister’s Office who assumed objective political responsibility.
He referred to the Prime Minister’s statement yesterday that although the process was legal in some aspects of it, in general it was wrong and he would not have allowed this if he had been informed of the relevant procedures before the connection began.
However, the mismanagement of Mr. Androulakis’ phone connection should not lead us down dangerous paths, he stressed.
He also said that throwing a curse at the EYP is not nationally beneficial, pointing out that an oversight cannot cloud a project with measurable national benefit.
He recalled that national security is a superset of security, he stressed that for years Greece had mistakenly kept the EYP, with primary responsibility for national security, under the control of the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection. In 2015, the Greek Ministry of Citizens’ Protection acquired its own internal security intelligence service, and from the facts, there was no reason for EYP to remain under the responsibility of this particular ministry.
The Mitsotakis government was the first to take very important steps to create a national security system in Greece, it stressed and referred to specific initiatives. He also mentioned what is happening in other countries such as Germany, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, Poland, as well as in South Zealand, Canada, the UK and the US regarding national security services.
“When the connection is complete and nothing comes out, then the equipment is destroyed. But these issues cannot be discussed publicly,” he said, later adding that he did not know what happened to this material, and that only Mr. Androulakis can get these answers.
When asked what would happen in other European countries, where the responsibility for the secret services lies with the apparatus of the head of government, in a similar case, he said: “Contact the security services of these countries. It is not the first time the EMP is subordinate to the Prime Minister, this has happened before.”
“The government does not use the Predator”
He also noted that as a software Predator as much as any other malware, is not used by the government or any of its services, and that the government has not purchased any malware. “Not a single body uses these programs. Surveillance is an unfortunate reality in Europe and we must find ways to shield ourselves from this threat,” he said.
He emphasized that the new head of the EMP, Mr. Demiris, can inform Mr. Androulakis, and “the same applies to any agency that Androulakis would like to contact. These issues cannot be discussed publicly.”
He added referring to “EYP triggers” and described them by stating that “the legal framework for investing does not exempt anyone, whoever you are. It is clear that this context needs to be revisited, which needs an additional filter. However, these discussions should not be held in the light of party exploitation. Parliamentary procedures will draw useful conclusions.”
Speaking about what would have changed if the prime minister had known about the case, he said that “if the prime minister had known, there would have been an assessment of the information, and the course of events would have been different. I do not mean the intervention of the prime minister after the approval, but if the prime minister had known this, the course of events would have been different. The Prime Minister was not informed by the EMP of this incident at any stage of the case.”
“The link was perfectly legal”
Invited to answer for it monitoring result, noted that he did not know and that “information can only be provided through certain channels. All I know is that the link was perfectly legal.”
Asked about “government leaks” about her involvement Ukraine and Armeniasaid there were no government leaks related to Ukraine and Armenia and that “security issues are not issues that can be ‘played’ with leaks.”
He categorically ruled out the possibility causing state instability, although he did not rule out that it was him purpose of certain third parties. “I am watching what is happening in other European countries where conditions of instability are being created. If anyone goes on strike or believes that Greece will also find itself in conditions of governmental instability, then they are greatly mistaken. Greece has a strong government with a strong majority and community support.”
He clearly ruled out the possibility of creating developments that would lead to early election due to the case of surveillance of Mr. Androulakis, answering if there are other issues that “the prime minister was not informed by the leadership of the EMP”, he replied: “Absolutely specific reason why the resignation of the EMP to the commander was proposed.”
Also referring to whether there are duties to the prime minister, he said: “We described the duties that were assigned with the resignation of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and in connection with political expediency with the resignation of the government secretary. The debate on whether EYP should belong to the Prime Minister’s Office will take place in due course. But how the country immediately reacted to the question of a massive invasion of Evros, how it handled many things and how we are geostrategically, will be included in the answer.”
