Revelations in the case of wiretappingwhat got him fired yesterday Gregory Dimitriadis from the post of General Secretary to the Prime Minister and Commander of the EMP, Panagiotis Kontoleontos. According to well-informed sources, the tangle of events began to unravel on Thursday afternoon. The Prime Minister was then informed Kyriakos Mitsotakis from EYP that the intelligence service had previously recorded, in the process of lawful wiretapping, the telephone conversations of the President PASOK – KINAL Nikos Androulakisat the request of a foreign agency.
The information provoked an angry reaction from the Prime Minister. For two reasons, according to his close associates. First of all, why the EPM decided to activate the process of spying on Mr. Androulakis’ mobile phone without first informing the political leadership, which should be considered self-evident, since the request of a third party concerned a political person. Secondly, because after the complaint of Nikos Androulakis about the attempt to eavesdrop on his mobile phone, the issue of surveillance has been in the center of the news for several days, and no one involved and knowledgeable, especially the EEM leadership, thought that it should be reported. While they were waiting for the information requested Message Privacy Authority (ADAE)from which it turned out that Mr. Androulakis was declassified, and then they decided to inform the Palace of Maxima.

“When what happened before, you can’t help but report on such a process,” the prime minister’s associates say, after emphasizing that from the very beginning, from the moment of the request, the information should have been made, and they proceed from the fact that neither in in which case consent to the continuation of deprivation will not be given.
The responsibility of the head of EEM arose as a matter of course, and from that moment on, resignation was the only way forward. Mr. Dimitriadis was called to the office of Mr. Mitsotakis, who was asked to facilitate the resignation of the prime minister, which he did yesterday. In an informal briefing by Maximos, Dimitriadis’s resignation was explained by his own desire not to serve the wave of poisonous attacks, while remaining in the prime minister’s entourage. And all because until yesterday, the secretary general of the prime minister has been in the center of fierce criticism lately in connection with publications and revelations about cases of surveillance.
However, it follows from Maximos’ entourage that Mr. Dimitriadis’s dissatisfaction arose in the distribution of responsibility for the unfortunate manipulations in the EYP-Androulakis case. Not because he knew something, in this Maximus is categorical, but for the exact opposite reason. From his position, he should have been informed. And, in any case, proceeding precisely from this principle, the attacks on him will continue and become even more fierce.
Maximos said that the government is at the disposal of Mr. Androulakis for any information and intelligence he requests, in the hope that this will be sufficient in the first place. And in order not to drag out the nomenklatura and rumors about the succession of Dimitriadis, it was immediately announced yesterday that Giannis Bratakos is becoming the new secretary of the prime minister.
It is noted that, according to government sources, on Monday the prime minister will make a statement on the surveillance case.
According to government spokesman Yannis Oikonomou, the government responds positively to both the establishment of a commission to investigate the facts of wiretapping and the reconvening of the parliamentary committee on institutions and transparency.
