βThe Greek Parliament must immediately begin to form a commission of inquiry into political responsibility,β stressed the President of PASOK, the Movement for Change. Nikos Androulakisregarding his surveillance case.
He also noted that “Mr. Mitsotakis and his government are exposing the country at the international level”, while noting that “the time has come for truth and justice for those whose arrogance and sense of impunity make them capable of anything.”
Full statement by Nikos Androulakis:
“10 days ago, I filed a complaint with the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court about an attempt to listen to my mobile phone according to the documents of the competent service of the European Parliament.
All these days, the government and Maximou have been systematically trying to downplay the problem with a lot of publications and fake news, even from a government spokesman.
Today, after all this, the closest associate of the prime minister, as well as the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, are resigning.
The veil of silence and discredit, which they tried to cover up such a serious case, is crumbling.
In a European democracy, it is unacceptable to disclose that, in addition to trying to connect my mobile phone to the Predator in September 2021, after the announcement of my candidacy, today we learn that the EMP, which reports directly to the Prime Minister, has begun to monitor the process internal elections for the leadership of PASOK.
Is this all a coincidence, Mr. Mitsotakis?
For 8 years in the European Parliament, I fought with all my might for the national interests of our country.
I never expected the Greek government to follow me with the darkest methods.
All this proves that Mr. Mitsotakis and his government are exposing the country at the international level. The Greek Parliament should immediately set about setting up a commission of inquiry into political responsibility.
I will not allow anyone to exploit this important issue, which touches on the basis of the functioning of institutions and democracy in our country. It is our democratic duty to protect the human rights and freedoms of the citizens of Greece.
Today is a time of truth and justice for those whose arrogance and sense of impunity make them capable of anything.β
