Mitsotakis: Citizens First

The certainty that government “through the state budget, it will continue to drain the fiscal margin to support the citizens to counter this ‘invasion’ of imported inflation, which is currently causing us several problems and several degrees of insecurity,” granted yesterday Prime Minister Mr. Mitsotakisshortly before the end of his visit to Argostoli.

“The economy in our country is developing at a fast pace thanks in large part to the excellent tourist flow as well as the significant investment made in our country,” he said, hastily adding: “On the other hand, let’s not doubt that we are facing very strong winds which create a great degree of instability in the global economy. The cost of living, oh inflation, are global phenomena, they are also hurting the Greek economy, they are also eating into Greek disposable income.” These reports were also made in response to remarks made by him regarding the excellent reports of Kefalonia and the Ionian Islands in terms of tourism (he noted that this year is better than 2019 in terms of airport arrivals and general tourist traffic), as well as progress of investment in infrastructure. However, at the same time, he also talked about the citizens’ reaction to government initiatives such as the opening of the Fuel Pass 2 platform. “The reaction of the citizens is impressive. There have been hours in the last two days when we have had over 100 requests per second, and this indicates the need to support citizens in matters related to the cost of living, in this case, the cost of fuel. On the other hand, he added, it also demonstrates the consistency of a government that can, in a very short period of time, not only have the fiscal space to provide support, but also the technological tools that allow citizens with absolute transparency to be able to announce their data and then get the amount they are entitled to. And we will continue to move in this direction as long as this crisis lasts.”

Mr. Mitsotakis from Kefalonia was positive about the course of the economy due to the large flow of tourists and investments.

Hospital of Kefalonia

In his detailed reports on local issues, the prime minister emphasized the strengthening of the Kefalonia General Hospital: “I must say that there are – we must be honest – unresolved issues that come from the past and which must be resolved in the most thorough manner. quickly,” he said and spoke, among other things, about strengthening the staff and opening an intensive care unit. After he announced the formation “under the Deputy Minister of State Chr. Triandopoulos, a flexible committee that will specifically deal with the issues of Kefalonia and Ithaca,” he also focused on the issue of civil protection. “We are struggling to catch up, but we will need a more holistic approach to civil protection issues that also covers seismic issues. We already have a lot of experience, but we will also include an element of prevention in the way we fight with natural disasters. We have jobs in the creeks and the wildfire front,” he said.

Finally, other local issues were also the subject of information and meetings, such as the modernization of the port of Argostoli, road infrastructure, reconstruction of housing for workers.
