It has never been easy that I live hand in hand with autism. But now the transition from childhood to adulthood is quite intense in experiences, emotions, questions and, why not, suffering.

We are now going through perhaps the most difficult phase since we have been walking hand in hand with autism.

Adolescence and autism really don’t mix well. Nothing I had experienced in the previous years, walking hand in hand with autism, could compare to the challenge that was to come. Everything I knew about autism began to be rewritten at an incredible rate, and I had to adapt as I always did.

There was a time when I felt like I knew everything, that nothing scared me anymore, no matter what David did, I knew how to screw him up. That I am the “mom and dad” of autism and have a solution for everything. Well, when I became a teenager, autism changed and hit me hard again, just like when I was first diagnosed.
