Next year we have elections and the political noise has already begun. The current political negotiations are perceived by the vast majority of the population as a division of the coin “among themselves”. This is because they seem to have nothing to do with the needs that “we”, the citizens, experience in our daily lives. There is a growing feeling that the “democratic parties” have abandoned the agenda of the population, and it is not surprising that a part of this population is moving towards nationalist, and sometimes even extremist, discourse.

From my point of view, which I have expressed since the beginning of the 2020 pandemic, the greatest danger now is the rise of nationalist and anti-European discourse. In light of the 2024 elections, many local politicians will try to use what is (not) happening in the elections, antagonizing us more and more. This is what happened after the Great Depression of the 1930s, and what is happening after the corona crisis. Vulnerable sections of the population, those most affected by both medical and especially economic consequences, will be tempted to support such leaders who pose as their saviors and friends. However, those who will promote antagonistic messages will be those who possess book knowledge.

Other days I had work at the campus of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and in Regi. Involuntarily, I noticed that several stickers with the symbol of the Iron Guard and the figure of Corneliu Zel Codrianu were placed on the pole, in an area clearly visible to everyone. Immediately after I saw these signs, I met several students to whom I told the above, and so my anger turned to disappointment. The students told me that the campus has been littered with nationalist and fascist messages for some time and showed me dozens of photos they had taken. Moreover, if they try to remove them, they will appear the next day and risk being harassed and threatened for removing them.

These stickers with fascist and extremist messages, often accompanied by messages such as “His example, our struggle” or “Long live the legion and the captain”, are present in large numbers in the area where the most educated youth of the current generation live. . It is perhaps no coincidence that these messages are placed next to the signs of a political party that entered parliament in 2020 and became famous for the fake alcohol news they promoted online.
