I have been teaching high school for over thirty years. I did it and I think/hope I do it out of pure passion. For many years, I have the first degree of pedagogical education, the highest degree in pre-university education. They are conductors, and the increase in conductors is not insignificant at all. And my salary is pitifully low! By the way, everyone knows this truth. Of all state employees with higher education, we, teachers, are paid the worst. We still growl from time to time. Publicly and privately, but this is the sad truth: we are in the queue for salaries of state employees!
However, on the other hand, both parents and managers are somewhat right, referring to the interests of the student. The argument regarding budget pressure … on our beloved country seems no less justified to me! That there is no money to meet our demands.
In the online media, in particular here at Contributors.ro, numerous commentators of high intellectual level attribute to us teachers that the deplorable state of the Romanian school including “Opera our teachers, more or less competent and committed to teaching/teaching young people in Romania. I do not deny that in some places these objections are unfounded. As everywhere, in education there are people more or less prepared and devoted to the profession. This is an undeniable truth! But here I dare to make a small nuance, we are increasingly wrinkled when it comes to … professional dignity, which is also reflected in salaries!
Without the slightest intention to cause discord between different categories of state employees, I/you are asking me if it is right for me to receive a lower salary after more than 30 years of work than, for example, a former student – mine, who, as a newcomer, works in public administration or in law enforcement the Romanian state? Even if he does not have a higher education! And who, besides, is lucky enough to retire at 45-50!
