Let’s Understand and Explain the Reality of Wind Energy and Photovoltaic Energy (Episode II)
In a report published on January 21, 2022, as a response to the analysis and conclusions of the EPG (Energy Policy Group-Romania, funded by OMV), which recommends installing 15 GW for decarbonization by 2050, we published and scientifically demonstrated why without storage energy it is not possible to effectively to promote the recommended intermittent renewable energy sources, decarbonization targets are not met, Romania’s energy security is not ensured and lower energy costs for consumers are not ensured.
PART I: Energy Situation and Current Regional Policy
I’ll try to keep it simple, in light of what happened in 2022, with the insanity of electricity, gas, etc. prices, with these teachings and lessons:
- energy storage helps us control energy market of Romania; without energy storage, we remain at the mercy market (free!)
- or, even more precisely, I make a snack in the summer and put it in the pantry for the winter (I don’t make a snack in the winter from poorly wintered tomatoes at a winter price, grown in greenhouses in Holland); also as lessons to be learned: why do you think the first “investment” of the big grain “traders” in the RO was to buy all the grain warehouses on the banks of the Danube from Orsova to Constanta?;
Following the logic outlined in the report published on January 21, I supported the need to cover Romania’s domestic energy consumption with domestic resources as a priority and forget about exports for the time being. It sounds a bit “politically correct”, although many investors confuse us with the nonsense of energy exports, “energy hub”, etc., but the reality “on the market” is this:
- no country proposes to rely on large, permanent electricity imports (Germany with gas from Russia is an example of how not to do this), so why would Romania propose a large investment, assuming someone would buy electricity from us?
- if you have excess energy and you have nothing to do with it, you export it at low prices “to get rid of it” (see France-England when France had a nuclear surplus or Denmark-Germany when wind turbines in Denmark produced surplus, and many other examples)
- Energy storage helps us control the energy market in our geographic area. This is the only way to approach the concept of “energy hub”
Let me try to argue the above starting with the RET report – Development Plan 2022-2032 prepared by Transelectrica, very good and available on their website.
Within ENTSO-E, six regional groups were created, within which the plan for the development of the European network is analyzed and finalized. Read the entire article and comment on contributors.ro
