However, data published by INE shows that the number of suicides in Spain increased by 5.1% in the first 6 months of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 2,015 deaths – more than those caused by road accidents or drowning.

Health experts and international agencies such as the WHO have repeatedly warned that mental health disorders will be one of the biggest challenges facing humanity both during and after the pandemic.

A report published this spring by the WHO found that more than 40 million people in EU member states reported suffering from depression, with the incidence of depression and anxiety rising by 25% during the pandemic.
