Over the last day, 7,500 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Romania, which is 3,900 more than the previous day. The most new cases – 948 – are in Bucharest, but the rate of infection in the capital is decreasing, reaching 7.08 per thousand.

1,492 new cases in 24 hours were from reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after initial infection.

In contrast to newly confirmed cases, 354 people tested positive again after retesting patients who had already tested positive.

3,700 patients with COVID-19 were hospitalized

In specialized medical facilities, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 3,701, which is 274 less than the previous day.

274 people were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, which is 6 less than the previous day. Of the 274 patients admitted to the HTI, 243 are unvaccinated.

Out of the total number of hospitalized patients, 476 are minors, 472 are in wards, which is 80 less than the previous day, and 4 are pre-hospital, 1 more than the previous day.

42 people died in the last day

From the beginning of the pandemic to today, 66,417 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 16/08/2022 (10:00) and 17/08/2022 (10:00) INSP reported 42 deaths (23 males and 19 females), of which two were registered before the control interval.

Out of 42 fatal cases, 4 were registered in the age category of 50-59 years, 11 in the age category of 60-69 years, 14 in the age category of 70-79 years, and 13 in the age category over 80 years.

All the deceased had concomitant diseases, 14 were vaccinated.

Over 28,000 tests in the last 24 hours

Over the last day, 5,036 RT-PCR tests were performed (3,168 based on case definition and medical protocol and 1,868 on request) and 23,626 rapid antigen tests.

From the beginning of the pandemic to this date, 13,379,741 RT-PCR tests and 11,038,930 rapid antigen tests have been processed at the national level.
