Over the last day, 5,710 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Romania, which is 759 less than the previous day. Most of the cases are still in Bucharest – 883 new cases – but the infection rate has fallen below 9 per thousand – 8.9 – after rising to close to the 10 per thousand threshold in the last period.

The 1,040 new cases in 24 hours are re-infected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the initial infection.

In contrast to newly confirmed cases, 308 people tested positive again after retesting patients who had already tested positive.

The number of hospitalized patients is almost 100 less compared to the previous day

In specialized medical facilities, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 3,815, which is 97 less than the previous day.

293 people were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, which is 4 less than the previous day. Of the 293 patients admitted to the HTI, 252 are unvaccinated.

Of the total number of hospitalized, 479 are minors, 476 were hospitalized in hospitals, which is 35 less than the previous day, and 3 in the emergency room, as in the previous day.

20 deaths in the last 24 hours

From the beginning of the pandemic to today, 66,311 people with a diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the period from 11.08.2022 (10:00) to 12.08.2022 (10:00), the National Health Service reported 20 deaths (10 men and 10 women), there were no deaths before the control interval.

Of the 20 deaths, 3 were registered in the age category of 50-59 years, 5 in the age category of 60-69 years, 5 in the age category of 70-79 years, and 7 in the age category over 80 years.

All the deceased had concomitant diseases, 6 were vaccinated.

How many Romanians were checked?

Over the last day, 4,006 RT-PCR tests were performed (2,588 based on case definition and medical protocol and 1,418 on request) and 17,780 rapid antigen tests.

From the beginning of the pandemic to this date, 13,364,926 RT-PCR tests and 10,973,877 rapid antigen tests have been processed at the national level.
