​4,689 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Romania in the last 24 hours, and Health Minister Alexandru Rafila said at a press conference on Monday that the trend is downward.

The most new cases – 577 – are in Bucharest, where the infection rate is the highest in the country – 9.77.

Over the last day, 1,171 more cases were registered than the previous day.

905 of the new cases in 24 hours were re-infected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the initial infection.

In total, 51,832 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in our country over the last week – the total number of cases decreased by 5,000 compared to the previous week.

Almost 4,300 hospitalized patients with COVID-19

4,299 patients with COVID-19 have been hospitalized in the hospital’s COVID-19 departments, which means an occupancy rate of 17.43% of the number of beds.

274 patients with COVID-19 were hospitalized in intensive care units, including 3 children. 238 intensive care patients are unvaccinated.

Out of the total number of hospitalized patients, 657 are minors, 654 are in wards, which is 102 more than the previous day, and 3 are in intensive care units, 1 more than the previous day.

14 deaths in the last day

From the beginning of the pandemic to today, 66,193 people with a diagnosed SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the period from 07.08.2022 (10:00) to 08.08.2022 (10:00), according to the National Health Service, 14 deaths were registered (9 men and 5 women), there were no deaths before the control interval.

Out of 14 fatal cases, 6 were registered in the age category of 70-79 years and 8 in the age category over 80 years.

All the deceased had concomitant diseases, 3 were vaccinated.

How many Romanians were checked?

Over the last day, 2,024 RT-PCR tests were performed (1,482 by case definition and medical protocol and 542 by request) and 13,013 rapid antigen tests.

To date, 13,345,780 RT-PCR tests and 10,889,266 rapid antigen tests have been processed at the national level.
