Actor Pierce Brosnan said he deeply regrets walking off a trail in Yellowstone National Park in the US after a Wyoming court fined him for going too close to a hot spring, according to Reuters.

Brosnan, 70, pleaded guilty to entering the hot spring and was fined $500 and ordered to pay $1,000 in community service to the Yellowstone Geological Foundation in perpetuity, the Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Citing court documents, it said the James Bond actor uploaded photos to Instagram in November of himself “sitting on a hot spring in Yellowstone National Park at Mammoth Hot Springs,” referring to the scenic area on the park’s north side.

“Signs are posted throughout the property to warn visitors of the dangers of thermal features and to indicate that visitors should stay on designated sidewalks and walkways,” the document states.

Off-trail walking in such thermal areas can be dangerous because the soil is fragile and the water is extremely hot.

In a post on his Instagram page late Thursday night, Brosnan said he is an “environmentalist” who “has great respect and love for our natural world.”

“However, I made an impulsive mistake, one I don’t take lightly, when I walked into a snow-covered hot spring in Yellowstone National Park to take a photo. “I did not see a ‘No Trespassing’ sign to warn of the danger, and I did not go to the area,” he wrote.

“I deeply regret my actions and offer my sincere apologies to everyone for intruding on this sensitive territory. Yellowstone and all of our national parks must be protected and preserved for all to enjoy,” he wrote, adding #StayOnThePath.

Brosnan is known for playing Agent 007 in four James Bond films between 1995 and 2002, as well as his roles in Mamma Mia, The Thomas Crown Affair and the recent Black Adam.
