59-year-old film and television star, known for the role of Vianna in the romantic comedy Chocolate (2000), plays famed fashion designer Coco Chanel in a new 10-episode television series titled A new look. The series is broadcast on Apple TV+.

Binoche told about how much she likes to be recognized on the street in an interview with the British publication Radio Times. “It depends on the moment,” said the French actress, explaining that “it can be a burden.”

“It’s not always the kind of attention you want. I go to the market every Sunday and people recognize me. And what? If they want to see me without makeup, that’s it. I filmed without makeup. When I do theater, people forget about me for a while,” she said.

The French actress says she is worried that the series she is starring in will be broadcast

“It worries me A new look it will be watched at home. I worry about my freedom. When you’re too famous, it’s a nightmare — you can’t go out and look at your life. You become a prisoner. But if someone wants to take a picture with me, I won’t think much because after all, I chose to be an actress. If it makes them happy, it makes me happy too,” added the French star.

Speaking about her new role in the Apple TV+ series, Juliette Binoche added:

“I discussed the story in detail with Todd Kessler (creator of the production) and the writers, because there are so many contradictory things that can be said about Chanel. Some condemn her as the worst person in the world, while others say she was active in the Resistance. It’s very difficult to have a black and white opinion.”

The actress also revealed that Chanel was known to have collaborated with the Nazis and added that her life was a “long and difficult story”.

Juliette Binoche starred in such films as Stormy Pass (1992), English patient (1996), Godzilla (2014) and The taste of things (2023).
