George Clooney says that the role in the series “Friends” did not bring Matthew Perry, whom he has known since the age of 16, no joy, no happiness, no peace, reports Insider.
Clooney, 62, spoke about his friendship with Perry in an interview with Deadline, telling how in his youth his friend told him about his dream to star in a comedy series.
“I’ve known Matt since I was 16 years old. We played table tennis together. He’s about 10 years younger than me,” said George Clooney.
“I just want to be in a regular sitcom and I’ll be the happiest man on earth,” paraphrased Perry Clooney. “And he probably played in one of the best [seriale de comedie] of all time,” said George Clooney.
But, according to him, the role of friends did not bring the comrade the happiness he hoped for.
“He was not happy. [Friends] it brought him no joy, no happiness, no peace,” he stressed, also recalling how difficult it was for him to see Perry’s depression and how shocked he was when he eventually learned that his friend ended up using opioids on a daily basis.
“And it just goes to show you that success and money and all that stuff doesn’t just make you happy,” Clooney said, adding that “you have to be happy with yourself in life.”
Coroners have revealed the cause of death of Matthew Perry
Perry has spoken extensively about her substance abuse problems in recent years, telling The New York Times last year that she faked back pain or migraines to take up to 55 Vicodin pills a day, a powerful painkiller.
“When you’re addicted to drugs, it’s all about math. I’m going there and I need to get three [pastile]. And then I go to this place and take 5 because I will stay here longer. It’s exhausting, but you have to do it or you’re going to get really, really sick,” he said.
Medical examiners this Saturday determined after toxicology tests were completed that Perry’s cause of death was an accident caused by “acute exposure to ketamine,” another powerful pain reliever also used to treat opioid use disorders.
Coroners cited “drowning, coronary heart disease and exposure to buprenorphine” as contributing factors.
The famous actor was found unconscious in the jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles on October 28. He died at the age of only 54 years.
