British singer Sting on Thursday predicted a “battle” of artists to protect their works from the use of artificial intelligence in the music industry, writes AFP.
The 71-year-old former singer of the Police group said in an interview with the BBC that “the main elements of music belong to us, the people. This will be the battle we will all have to fight in the years to come: protecting our human capital from artificial intelligence.”
The process is used to reproduce the works of famous musicians. Famous songs by artists such as Eminem, Drake, The Weeknd and Oasis were played with the help of artificial intelligence.
“Tools are useful, but we have to control them,” declared Sting, “we can’t let the machines take over, we have to be careful.
“Maybe it works for electronic music. But if there were songs that express emotions, I don’t think I would have moved,” he added.
The Police singer was speaking as he was set to receive the Ivors Academy of Music’s top award on Thursday.
