This feature film by Americans Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert tells the story of a laundromat owner played by Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh, exhausted by administrative problems with the tax office, who suddenly finds herself in parallel universes.

The film was a hit last year, grossing $100 million worldwide and earning 11 Oscar nominations.

Actress Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress, Ke Hui Quan won Best Supporting Actor and Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress.

James Hong, 94, was the center of attention at Sunday’s gala as he won Best Actor in a Motion Picture.

He spoke of a time when Hollywood cast white actors in Asian roles because producers thought “Asians weren’t good enough.”

“But look at us now,” he said to applause.

Oscar favorite

The SAG Awards, combined with the Producers Guild Awards (PGA) gala, gives “All at once” a good spot for the Oscars on March 12.

Other winners of the Asian casting “Everything Everywhere” reflected on the long-standing struggle for more diversity in Hollywood.

“This award is not just for me, it’s for all girls like me,” said Michelle Yoh.

Ke Hui Kuan, who starred as a child in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple Court and took a long break from acting because of “so few opportunities,” said he was the first Asian actor to win in his category.

“When I learned about it, I quickly realized that this moment was no longer just mine. It also belongs to all those who have worked for greater diversity,” he said.

Brendan Fraser won this year’s SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.

In the television categories, the cast of Abbott Elementary, a mockumentary about teachers at an underfunded school in Philadelphia, won for best comedy ensemble.

The cast of the series “White Lotus” won an award for the second season of the drama series in Italy.

Sally Field, 76, received the award for a career that began nearly 60 years ago with television productions of Gidget and The Flying Nun before a string of Oscar-winning films from Norma Rae and Steel Magnolias to Forrest Gump and Lincoln”. (news.ro)
