Recently, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has become more serious about the code of conduct of its members, as well as those who attend the Oscars.

Last year, Will Smith was banned from the Oscars and other events for 10 years after he punched American comedian Chris Rock on stage.

But besides Smith, what other actors and directors have been suspended indefinitely from the Oscars for inappropriate behavior?

Of course, the most talked about ban was that of the infamous producer Harvey Weinstein. He was kicked out of the ceremony in 2017 after he was accused of a series of sexual assaults against colleagues and members of the entertainment industry. The Academy subsequently denounced it and called it “disgusting, contrary to the high standards of the Academy and the creative community it represents.”

Another Hollywood personality expelled from the Academy in 2018 was Bill Cosby. The American comedian, actor and host was convicted of drug use and rape by Temple University employee Andrea Constand in 2004.

In fact, not only was he banned from the Oscars, he was also stripped of his honorary degree from Yale University.

Along with Cosby, director Roman Polanski was also expelled. Polanski has been under investigation since 1978, when he fled the US and settled in France while awaiting sentencing for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl. However, Polanski was not denied the Best Director award.

Below is how director Adam Kimmel (Lars and the Real Girl, Capote) was expelled from the Academy and asked not to attend the 2021 Oscars after it was revealed he had previously been arrested for sexually abusing two minors. But the first person in the entertainment industry to be denied entry to the Oscars was actor Carmine Caridi. In 2004, it became known that Kimmel distributed pirated copies of films intended solely for use by members of the Academy specifically for voting purposes. When copies hit the Internet, he was fired from the Academy.
