“From the depths of the mountain, a giant creature awakens after 1,000 years and threatens to destroy everything in its path to Oslo.” Why can’t the Norwegians have their own Godzilla too?
Can you stop what only existed in Norwegian folklore? That’s what The Troll, Netflix’s new hit, aims to show us. Film critics were generally satisfied, although some noted on Rotten Tomatoes that it “lacked nutritional value” or that “every scene is completely taken from other movies, and some of them were good”.
They probably liked that this is a good family movie about monsters with quality special effects, bloodless disasters and a few horror scenes.
However, the public was more demanding, giving it a miserable 49% (also weak on IMDb – 5.9/10). But a week after its release, it has secured the first position in the ranking of platforms, definitely becoming the new leader in the “we watch even if we don’t like it” category.
Only in Romania he was dethroned rather quickly and only “Lady Chatterley’s Lover / Amantul doamnei Chatterley” was able to do it.
This is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by D. H. Lawrence, published in 1928, which scandalized public opinion, telling about the idyll of a young lady from high society with a man from the bottom of the duvet, at a time when such a relationship was socially unacceptable and divorce was something unthinkable .
The detailed description of the sex scenes between the characters caused an explosion of indignation, which ended with the book being banned in many countries and a trial against Lawrence for obscenity in his native England, a country where the novel could not be published. until 1960.
In addition to being faithful to the book, including steamy, bare-fingered erotic scenes, the film tackles various themes and characters – class divisions, female enslavement, embracing sexuality – with a depth and sensitivity that Lawrence has rarely been credited with.
Romanian audiences also seem to have been more sensitive to the quality of the cinematic work, rated 87% by critics and 89% by viewers on Rotten Tomatoes and with a more honorable rating on IMDb (6.9/10). As a result, Romania was among the three countries that came out on top, while among the 65 others, it is only on the other two steps of the pedestal.
