Beach Chiliadu from Evia claims it Best European Seat Award 2022 European Film Commission Network (EUFCN), as advertised by the Hellenic Film Center and at the suggestion of its International Audiovisual Production Directorate. Everyone can take part in online voting in Greece and abroad.

The Greek Film Commission’s long-standing relationship with EUFCN, of which it is an active member, has once again allowed Greek cinema to compete for the annual European Film Location Award. It is worth noting that Corfu conquered it in 2019, when the British TV series The Darrels was filmed here.

During the pandemic, Chiliadu welcomed some of the filming done in our country. award-winning film Triangle of Sorrow (Triangle of Sorrow), which was also produced by the Greek company Heretic. The natural landscape of Chiliados has become one of the protagonists of the “Triangle of Sorrows”, decisive for the atmosphere and aesthetic character of international filmmaking. The result, which won the Palme d’Or at the recent Cannes Film Festival..

Swedish director Ruben Ostlund said the best of his experience in Greece: “The places in Chiliadou are unique. I’m not exaggerating, the shooting was fantastic. The crew was knowledgeable and ready while the locals were friendly and accommodating. We were lucky with the weather as well as the conditions associated with Covid-19. The organization of filming in these conditions and the production of material that exceeded all my expectations made my joy even greater. The period I spent in Greece was one of my experiences that made me love my job even more. Many thanks to Heretic and the Hellenic Film Commission.”

Swedish producer Eric Hemendorff is also delighted: “When our collaboration with Heretic started, Giorgos Karnavas sent me a photo of location manager Menelaos Mytilinaios, the best I’ve ever seen. I was excited. Chiliadou combined mountains and sea, it was the wild beauty we wanted. Reuben selectively approaches locations. If they hadn’t done this to him, we wouldn’t be there.”

How will we vote?

From November 28, 2022 to January 30, 2023, the public can visit the EUFCN pan-European platform and vote on their preferred seat.

The awards ceremony will take place as part of the European Film Market during the 73rd Berlin Film Festival.

Voting for the Best European Film Location 2022 entitles voters to qualify for a three-night stay for two at an award-winning location (proposed by the Cinematography Commission of the location). The winner will be selected using the EUFCN and Cineuropa lottery.
