Oscar-winning filmTitanicsince 1997 has undoubtedly been a big bet for him James Cameron. Not only in terms of filming, but also the right actors that the director was looking for for his main characters.
In a recent interview with GQ, Cameron revealed that he initially considered Gwyneth Paltrow for the role of Rose until he met Kate Winslet, whom he called “fantastic.” As for him Leonardo DiCapriothe director stated that it was one of his first choices.
“At the audition with Leo, everyone was fascinated, and then I told him: “Let’s see what your chemistry with Kate will be like.” When DiCaprio refused to audition with Winslet, Cameron shook his hand and said, “Thank you for coming.”
The director then explained to DiCaprio that Titanic is “a huge production that will take two years. So I’m not going to make any bad casting decisions… either you read or you don’t get the part.”
According to him, DiCaprio eventually agreed to read the script, but the way he read it indicated that he had turned down the audition. “Until I got pissed off and said, ‘Okay, now I want action,’ and suddenly he turned into Jack,” Cameron concluded.
