Popular British seriesPeaky Blindersrecently concluded with the airing of the sixth cycle of episodes, however, the story does not end there, as there will be a continuation in the form of a film.
Drama/Crime Series Creator Stephen Knight he has publicly stated his desire to make a film set in Birmingham many times.
As Knight stated in a recent interview on Heart Breakfast, filming is likely to start soon. “I am writing the script and it is almost ready. Then we’ll start filming… I’m setting up a couple of film and TV studios in the Digbeth area of Birmingham. We will also head there to the area of the Little Wasteland, where the real Peaky Blinders operated. So basically it’s like they’re coming home.”
For six years it aired on the network bbc one, the series gained a large following, which increased when Netflix later added it to their library. Knight stressed that a particularly appealing aspect of making the film is the opportunity for all fans to watch it together in the cinema and have a unique experience.
“I’m looking forward to the big Sharp event where people can watch the story as a community. The social media community is very strong and many online discussions have sprung up based on the events of the series. But if you get everyone in a room, it will be really interesting.”
But fans aren’t the only ones excited about what’s to come on the big screen. Lead Actor Cillian Murphywho plays Thomas Shelby, recently stated that he did not know the film’s content but was looking forward to participating.
“I’m so excited to read the script. But I think it’s good for everyone to take a break. It’s always great, and then we can regroup. Steve is a busy screenwriter with many projects, but I know what he enjoys most is writing the script for Pikki. He loves it. So I think when the time comes, if there’s another story to tell, I’ll be there.”
