
Last year, Romanians ported more than 1.3 million landline and mobile phone numbers, a record number since the launch of the portability service in 2008, which allows users to keep their phone number when they decide to switch providers, the Communications Regulatory Authority (ANCOM ). announced on Monday.
Yes, last year 1,336,982 phone numbers changed their operator, but not the user. Of the total number of transferred numbers, 94%, i.e. 1,255,962, are mobile numbers.
Records were also set for the average number of goals, which reached 111,415. The most ports, over 140 thousand, were made in November and December 2022.
In the porting processes carried out in 2022, 35 fixed and mobile operators were involved. Of the total volume of portings for the past year, 84% were carried out by users – individuals and 16% – by legal entities.
Since the introduction of the portability service in Romania in October 2008, more than 9.7 million numbers have been ported between networks. Of these, 8.7 million are mobile phone numbers (89%) and 1 million are landline numbers.

In 2022, 1,255,962 mobile phone numbers were ported. RCS & RDS is the provider that has received the most mobile number portings at 754,833, followed by Vodafone with 191,822 numbers received and Orange with 149,361.
Telekom Romania Mobile Communications received 129,732 numbers, while Orange Romania Communications received 30,190.
Of the total number of mobile phone numbers ported in 2022, 56% (703,810) were prepaid numbers.

In 2022, the transfer of landline numbers also increased significantly (by more than 30%). Yes, this year 81,020 landline phone numbers were ported. The most users chose the offers of providers: RCS & RDS (26,259 numbers), GTS Telecom (15,345), Vodafone (12,516), Orange (10,744) and BT Global Europe (4,542).
Of the total number of landline numbers ported this year, 14,401 were independent numbers, numbers with free access and numbers with special rates.
During the past year, ANCOM received 320 petitions regarding porting of phone numbers, users report certain aspects related to the cancellation of porting processes in the context of being re-offered by providers they intended to opt out of, as well as late completion of the porting process.
