The used phone market approached 300 million units last year, and that number will continue to grow, with an estimated 413 million used and refurbished phones shipped in 2016, worth a total of $100 billion, IDC data shows.

The total used phone market is estimated to be 253 million phones in 2021, up from 30 million units last year. Of the 282 million SH phones shipped last year, 73 million were in the US and 209 million were shipped elsewhere.

The forecast for 2026 indicates a total of 413 million units shipped, with 104 million in the US and 309 million in the rest of the world.

More and more people are buying up premium models, and more and more companies are buying used phones, refurbishing them and then selling them.
