This increase occurred as a result of changes introduced by Law No. 370/2022 on the approval of Government Resolution No. 16/2022.

Thus, the excise tax on ethyl alcohol from January 1, 2023 is 4208.86 lei/hl of pure alcohol, increased from 3968.38 lei/hl of pure alcohol (the level applied from August 1, 2022).

“The cost of raw materials and materials has increased by 30-80%, and the excise tax level has already increased twice in 2022 alone (on January 1, 2022 by 3.6% and on August 1, 2022 by 5%),” which creates enormous pressure on costs production From January 1, 2023, a new 6% increase in excise duty will be applied to us, which will also lead to an increase in the price of alcoholic beverages with an alcohol concentration of 40% by at least 2 lei/liter,” said Tudor Furir. , president of the Romanian Spirits Association.

According to ANAF data, in 2021 the contribution of the alcohol industry to the state budget from the excise tax on ethyl alcohol amounted to 850 million lei. This amount increased by 48% compared to 2020 (575.77 million lei in 2020).
