“On December 11, the UK experienced heavy snow and adverse weather conditions (ice fog) causing major disruption to public ground transport and all airlines flying to and from the UK. Disruption to local public ground transportation prevented airport personnel (such as security screening agents, ground handling agents, aircraft de-icing personnel) from getting to work, and more than 10 centimeters of snow fell on runways and other parts of airports, preventing airlines from take off or land at several UK airports. Wizz Air was also affected by these unexpected circumstances and, unfortunately, was forced to cancel or significantly delay some of its flights to and from London Luton and London Gatwick airports,” the budget airline operator notes.
The airline says it is constantly working with its local partners to secure hotel accommodation for stranded passengers, but warns that with tens of thousands of passengers stranded at several UK airports, finding suitable accommodation may take longer than expected.
The Wizz Air fleet consists of 173 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.
