Social network Twitter will no longer take action against misinformation about the Covid-19 pandemic, following the takeover of the social network by billionaire Elon Musk.
The corresponding measures were already suspended last Wednesday, according to a message published on the website Twitter, the German agency DPA reported on Tuesday, citing Agerpres.
In 2020, the company established rules to stop the spread of false and misleading information about the coronavirus and vaccines.
Then Twitter mentioned the dangers of misinformation for people who might turn to unscientific treatments or refuse to get vaccinated against Covid.
In total, more than 100,000 posts were removed and more than 11,000 accounts were suspended for violating the rules.
Twitter’s decision became the object of numerous criticisms, mainly from the far-right political camp in the US.
Elon Musk repeatedly played down the pandemic in 2020. He has also been a critic of the quarantine measures that have at times halted production at the main factory of his electric car maker, Tesla.
51-year-old Elon Musk said that he was sick with Covid-19 twice.
