From a list of 27 new models, including the Dacia Jogger, seven models have been selected as candidates for the title “Car of the Year 2023 in Europe”. Last year, the winner was the Kia EV6, and two years ago, the Toyota Yaris. The list of nominees is dominated by electric cars.
Here are seven nominations, according to the jury:
- Jeep Avenger
- Kia Niro
- Nissan Aria
- Peugeot 408
- Renault Australia
- Volkswagen ID Buzz
- Toyota bZ4X/Subaru Solterra
Toyota and Subaru models are listed together because they share a lot in common, being built at the Toyota plant in Japan on the Toyota platform.
The prestigious award was first presented in 1964, and the winner was the Rover 2000 model.
The 2023 winner will be announced on January 13 next year in Brussels, instead of the traditional venue, Geneva, at the opening of the show. The Geneva exhibition, which is traditionally held in March, will be held at the end of the year in Qatar.
Several dozen European journalists are part of the jury.
The seven finalists were chosen from an initial list of 27 announced in late August. It also featured the Dacia Jogger, but there were also Chinese models such as the DFSK Series 5, MG 4, BYD Tang, BAIC EU5 and Hongqi E-HS9.
